Sarmad,
The Actigraphy Introduction contains some of this information.

Thanks for expressing interest in the MESA actigraphy data. For someone new to the area, I would recommend exploring the summarized actigraphy data first. There you will find variables that describe the average amount of time spent asleep and awake (along with lots of other variables) over the time that the study participant wore the actigraphy watch. Datasets can be downloaded from the files area with an approved DAUA.
The first variable you are looking for is probably avgmainsleep5.

If you were looking to explore the raw actigraphy files (30-seconds of data per row) then this would require more explanation. I would suggest starting with the Scoring Manual and Manual of Procedures linked from the main documentation page.
Thanks,
Actigraphy data are now available as part of the HCHS/SOL dataset. Overall summary data are available, as well as epoch-by-epoch (30 second) data from the (usually) week long recording.
Winda,
Unfortunately the parent cohort identifiers were purposefully stripped out of the SHHS dataset as part of BioLINCC's de-identification process. The only method I know of to get this level of information would be to go to BioLINCC and then request access to some of the parent cohorts themselves (e.g. ARIC, Framingham, CHS). BioLINCC holds on to a dataset that links the NSRR subject IDs back to their original cohorts.
Stephany,
Good catch. This appears to be something we overlooked, but the root cause is fairly obvious in retrospect. What happened is that Mixed Apneas were scored in Compumedics Profusion with an "Unsure Hypopnea" tag. This was a case of the Sleep Reading Center "monkey patching" the software and scoring process to work for CHAT. This distinction in the tags was handled in the data processing steps to output the result datasets, but the XML annotation exports came straight from Profusion. As such, I'm guessing all the Mixed Apneas have been output as Hypopneas in the XML annotation files.
I will add this as an item of discussion for the team. Hopefully the scoring/tools group can come up with a straightforward solution to re-generate the XML with correct annotations. In the meantime I will ask that they write up some documentation about this issue and its cause.
Thanks for raising the issue, and sorry for this oversight!
Edit: These events should actually show up as "Unsure" in the XML files, so luckily they are distinguishable from other respiratory events. We may be able to simply do a find-and-replace to substitute "Mixed Apnea" for "Unsure". In the meantime, though, this should help you identify the Mixed Apnea events in your version of the data.
Hey Winda,
CVD outcomes were tracked up through 2010/2011 for most subjects, so the dates of death (CENSDATE) have a very wide range. I don't think we are going to find a variable that explicitly says "this participant was dead before SHHS2". Maybe you could try looking at the minimum amount of time between SHHS1 and SHHS2 (1,731 days?) and then assume that everyone who died before that amount of time had elapsed did not have the opportunity to participate in SHHS2 (hence explaining the missing follow-up data)? Just spitballing here.
Let me know if I can try to help clarify further.
It appears as if 760 participants from the New York cohort are included in the SHHS Visit 1 data. The other "other studies" seem to include Tuscon and Framingham (non-Offspring, I suppose).
Sonja,
Unfortunately there is not a variable in the NSRR SHHS dataset indicating parent cohort. The parentstudy variable was explicitly removed when the data were deposited on BioLINCC as part of the de-identification process. BioLINCC retains an ID crosswalk dataset that allows for linking back to the original parent cohort data in cases where the researcher requests and obtains access to both the parent cohort and SHHS datasets.

Luis,
There was a fairly recent discussion about actigraphy data ongoing here: https://www.sleepdata.org/forum/actigraphy
Unfortunately we do not have any raw actigraphy data posted at this time. I am looking to post actigraphy data from a subset of Hispanic Community Health Study participants sometime in the next few months, but it's not guaranteed I will have access to the data before then.
Sorry about that -- adding different file types like actigraphy is definitely one of our priorities and we hope to have a large collection in the future!
