Hi, Is there a variable in the SHHS dataset that indicates from which parent study (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities Study, Cardiovascular Health Study, Framingham Heart Study, Strong Heart Study, New York Hypertension Cohorts, and Tucson Epidemiologic Study of Airways Obstructive Diseases and the Health and Environment Study) a given participant was recruited? Thank you!

Sonja,

Unfortunately there is not a variable in the NSRR SHHS dataset indicating parent cohort. The parentstudy variable was explicitly removed when the data were deposited on BioLINCC as part of the de-identification process. BioLINCC retains an ID crosswalk dataset that allows for linking back to the original parent cohort data in cases where the researcher requests and obtains access to both the parent cohort and SHHS datasets.

I have a follow-up question: On the BioLINCC website, it says "Due to sovereignty issues, Strong Heart Study participants are not included in the shared SHHS data. Data from a total of 5804 participants (1915 ARIC, 1230 CHS, 688 Framingham Offspring and 1971 from other studies), consenting to share data are available." Would you happen to know from which other studies the 1971 participants cited above were recruited, and in particular, whether/how many participants from the New York cohort are included in the NSRR dataset? Thanks so much!

It appears as if 760 participants from the New York cohort are included in the SHHS Visit 1 data. The other "other studies" seem to include Tuscon and Framingham (non-Offspring, I suppose).
