Heart Biomarker Evaluation in Apnea Treatment

2.4 Blood Pressure Training and Certification

All HeartBEAT personnel performing BP measurements on HeartBEAT participants must be certified in performing BP according to the HeartBEAT BP protocol.

2.4.1 Certification Requirements

  1. Read Resting Blood Pressure Manual of Procedures.
  2. Confirmation that the person participated in central training or viewed the BP procedure video was seen.
  3. Obtain Resting BP following the key elements of the HeartBEAT protocol on 3 volunteers. The certifying individual may be: 1) a previously certified research staff member (preferred); or 2) the site PI or local BP expert who has reviewed the BP protocol and is familiar with all aspects of the protocol.
  4. Obtain 3 measurements for SBP and DBP on each volunteer with certifying individual observing technique and making measurements concurrently using a double headed stethoscope.
  5. Valid Measurements: All elements identified on check list are adhered to over all 9 measurements (3 replicates on 3 individuals) and each concurrent measurement agrees within 2 mm Hg compared to reference standard (using a double headed stethoscope).
