Hi NSRR team,

In my project, I was working directly on MESA's XML events. I would like to understand the scoring of the apneas event in these files please - are they all the events associated with 2% desaturation and above (3%, 4%, and 5%)? And what about the arousals?

Thank you very much! Yuval, AIMLab., Technion.

Page 17 of this MESA guide has an overview of how events were scored -- https://sleepdata.org/datasets/mesa/files/documentation/MESA_Sleep_Data_Documentation_Guide.pdf

My understanding is that a desat threshold was not used at the time of scoring, i.e. apneas could have been scored with no associated desaturation. The Profusion software automatically links apneas/hypopneas with desats/arousals when outputting the PSG report, which subsequently gives us a breakdown of event type at different threshold levels, and enables us to create AHIs at different thresholds (e.g. AHI3, AHI4).

Thank you, Mike.

Where can I find the link between the events and the desaturations?

Compumedics Profusion does not output this link (e.g. Hypopnea X is linked to SpO2 Desaturation Y) in the XML annotations. Users will need to re-imagine/re-generate these links if that level of detail is required.
