Dear NSRR team,

I would like to know "in more detail" about the light which has been recorded in SHHS, and exists in PSG files. I have some questions about that: What is the meaning of recorded light exactly? what does the light refer to? What is the meaning of values of 0, 1, 2, and 3 that light signal has for each second? what is the meaning of theses values ( 0, 1, 2, and 3)? Where can I get precised information about this signal of PSG files (light) from?

Thank you so much

https://sleepdata.org/datasets/shhs/pages/08-equipment-shhs1.md - there's some more information here. I don't think the channel was intended to be used outside of the beginning and end of the sleep period in the setting of lights off/on. I did inquire with a sleep scorer to see if those coded values have specific meanings when represented in Compumedics. I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

Thanks for checking out the site!

Thank you so much for your response,

It seems I have made a mistake about the values that light signals can have, the values are only 0 and 1; however, I am wondering if the value of 1 refers to when lights off (or dark time) during the sleep and the value of 0 refers to when the person turn on the lights for a reason such as going to the restroom, or because of insomnia, ...? Is it a correct inference? I mean, When light signals get values of 1 and when their values change to 0 ?

Thank you for any guidance.

I believe the values correspond to 0 = ON and 1 = OFF.

Here's a snippet from the manual:

The Profusion XML files also have a section near the beginning that lists the LIGHT meanings, which typically go in numeric order (0, 1).
