Cleveland Family Study

5.1 Overview

DNA can be prepared using cells obtained by swabbing the buccal mucosa. It is a simple non-invasive procedure and requires no exposure to blood or blood products. A swab of the interior lining of the check will be done with a sterile brush to obtain cells that can be used for a back-up source of DNA (should there be insufficient DNA available from the blood samples).
