Hi, I am researcher and wanted to use the dataset for my study. While requesting to access the dataset, I came across the attestation required for completion of Human Subjects Protection Training Course (under HIPAA training). What does that training course implies, is it mandatory to attain the certification to attain access to the SHHS dataset?

Yes, users must attest to having completed a human subjects protections course before accessing data on this resource. We provide this link to some freely available courses - https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/training/index.html

Users' institutions may offer other trainings as well. The training course implies that the user has reviewed materials regarding the importance of protecting data collected from human subjects.
